Installation and setup

How to install the app?

Installation takes a few minutes. Below is the whole path, from the App Store listing to a test order that confirms everything works.

1. Install the app

Open the InPost – Tale Commerce listing in the Shopify App Store and click Install. Shopify will ask you to approve the permissions the app needs - once you do, the app is installed and opens on the first onboarding step.

The App Store also lists similarly named apps by other developers. Check that the developer is Tale Commerce before installing.

2. Enable Carrier Calculated Shipping

The first onboarding step, and the one that matters most: without Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) the app cannot show pickup point shipping options in checkout. It is a Shopify feature that, depending on your plan and billing, is either included or something you request from Shopify support. The app walks you through it and will not let you past this step until CCS is active.

3. Choose a plan and start the trial

With CCS enabled, the second onboarding step asks you to pick a billing interval - monthly or annually - and approve the subscription in Shopify. The 10-day free trial starts at that moment, and you will not be charged if you uninstall before it ends.

4. Set up delivery countries

In the app settings, enable pickup point delivery for every country you ship to, and set the shipping cost and free shipping threshold for each one. The app supports 11 countries. Most of them run on InPost’s own network - under the InPost brand in Poland, the UK, Italy, Spain and Portugal, and as Mondial Relay in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg - with local partners in Austria and Hungary.

5. Check your shipping profiles

The app shows in its settings which shipping profiles it is enabled in. If your store uses more than the default profile, make sure the app is enabled in every profile that contains products you ship to pickup points - products in a profile without the app will not see pickup points in checkout.

6. Adjust your store settings

Two settings are worth changing before the first order: require the customer’s first name, last name and phone number (the carrier needs them), and remove any manually added rate such as “InPost Locker” left over from before the installation - a customer could pick that rate instead of the app’s, and then the order arrives without a pickup point ID.

7. Place a test order

Go through your own checkout with a complete, real shipping address - the list of pickup points appears only once the address is filled in, and may stay empty for addresses that do not exist. Select a pickup point and place the order.

Open the order in the Shopify admin. The ID of the selected pickup point is shown next to the order, in the shipping option - that ID is what you pass to your broker or carrier when creating the shipment.

Updates

The app updates itself. New versions and fixes roll out on our side - there is nothing to install, reinstall or approve on yours.

Pickup points are not showing?

First give it a moment: Shopify caches the shipping options proposed for a given cart for 5 to 15 minutes, so a settings change is not always visible straight away. If they are still missing after that, go through the checklist in Pickup points are not showing in checkout, and if that does not help - get in touch, we’ll gladly take a look.
